Answers to the questions we hear most about our expeditions.

What experience level do I need? Can beginners join?

Every level, from your very first cast to seasoned angler. Our trips are fully guided, and the guides tailor the water, technique and pace to you — so beginners are genuinely welcome and will be casting and catching. If you've never picked up a fly rod, just tell us in advance and we'll plan a little extra coaching.

What species will we target?

Primarily brown and rainbow trout, with the chance of catching salmon depending on the date within the season.

When is the fishing season?

The Aysén fly-fishing season runs from 12 October to 7 May. Our scheduled Cerro Castillo departure is in March 2027 — early autumn, one of the finest windows of the year, with settled conditions and trout feeding hard before winter.

When is the best time to go?

It depends on the experience you're after.
• Between October and November the area is known for hungry, active trout feeding hard after spawning.
• Between December and February are the ideal dates for dry flies and big attractors. Here the fishing turns visual — a truly unique experience.
• Between March and April the brown trout start preparing to spawn, becoming more aggressive and feeding as much as they can. This is the time to hunt the trout of your life.

What's included, and what's not?

Everything on the ground is arranged: accommodation, all meals, wines & drinks, expert guides, transfers and your fishing license. Not included: your international and domestic flights, travel insurance, and personal fishing equipment (rods, reels, lines, flies).

How do I get there? What's the nearest airport?

Fly into Balmaceda (BBA), the airport serving the Aysén region, usually via Santiago (SCL). We pick you up at Balmaceda on arrival day and transfer you to the accommodation — and back again on departure day. Airport transfers and all ground transport during the trip are included; your flights are not.

Where do we stay?

We have a selection of comfortable, high-quality lodgings. Depending on the expedition we have in mind, we'll pick the best option to use as a base of operations for the finest waters.

How do I book and what are the payment terms?

Reach out through the contact form and we'll confirm availability and hold your spot. We'll walk you through each step. Payment terms:
• 50% on booking.
• 50% 30 days before arrival.

How many people are in a group, and what’s the guide ratio?

Small groups of 4 anglers with one guide per two anglers, so the fishing stays personal and you get real, hands-on attention on the water. We only host one group at a time to guarantee that level of attention.

Do I need to bring my own gear, and what should I pack?

Fishing equipment — rods, reels, lines and flies — isn't included, so most guests bring their own. Also pack layered clothing for changeable Patagonian weather, a good rain jacket, waders and wading boots, polarised sunglasses and sun protection. Once you book we'll send a complete recommended packing and tackle list; and if you'd rather travel light, get in touch and we'll help you sort out what you need.

What's the cancellation / refund policy?

The 50% deposit secures your place and is non-refundable.
• 90 days or more before arrival: you can change your booking to another date, subject to availability.
• Under 90 days: if you cancel, you lose the deposit.
• Under 30 days or no-show: no refund, as the full balance has been paid.
• If we cancel the expedition — whether due to force majeure or because the minimum group size isn't reached: you may choose between a full refund or a change of date.
• At any time you can pass your place to another angler at no cost.

What's the average and trophy size of the fish?

The trout we target average between 16 and 22 inches. But you'll have chances to hook trout over 25 inches, and even much bigger.

Do we wade, fish from a boat, or both?

Both are possible, depending on conditions and the angler's preference. A good part of the fishing is done from the boat, where you cover the best water. But there are smaller waters or special spots where wading becomes the best option for great fishing.

What rod and line weight do you recommend?

• A 9-foot 5- or 6-weight rod with WF floating lines.
• A 9-foot 7-weight rod with fast-sinking lines.
Once you book we'll send a full recommended tackle list so you arrive with exactly what you need.

Do I need a fishing license, and is it included?

Yes — your Chilean fishing license is included and we take care of arranging it. It's one less thing for you to organise before the trip.

What meals are included? Can you handle dietary restrictions?

All meals are included — hearty breakfasts, riverside lunches and full dinners with wine. Let us know about any allergies or dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) when you book and we'll happily accommodate them.

What's the weather like, and what if it's bad?

Aysén weather is famously changeable — expect a bit of everything, from bright sun to wind and passing rain, even in a single day, so layers are your friend. Patagonian weather can be tough, but we fish rain or shine: your guide adapts the plan to the conditions, and we base ourselves in strategic areas so there's always fishable water regardless of the weather.
